Who would've thought we'd all be working out, doing ab challenges, and making weights from household items just in time for summer? I definitely didn't. I had a huge goal to feel more active, strong, and confident about my fitness progress by the time summer rolled around. Yet, here we are, at home, moving very very little every day.
My watch keeps telling me to stand up, move, walk, literally anything. I just have nowhere to move to. I could go to the kitchen maybe look at the same snacks that I look at every day in the panty, but that won't do me any good. I could go bother my parents who switch off between work and tv watching. I could go poke my brother until he scares me away with his knowledge of conspiracy theories, or I could just sit here on my bed, or on my chair in my room as I've been doing for the past month. Yea, it's cool I'll just stay here. I've definitely struggled looking at my health app, the poor thing is lacking activity. However, I've done a pretty good job of moving at least once a day. If I don't move my body at some point every day, I've found myself getting more sad about this situation. I have so much to be grateful for though. Including having some equipment to workout from home with. I've had to make do with two 20-lb dumbbells, a yoga mat, a yoga ball, and my body weight. Every day, I'll get on instagram and check the four fitness influencers I've looked to for inspiration: Sarah's Day, Krissy Cela, Ashleigh Jordan, and Natacha Oceane. They're wonderful! They've all been putting out instagram videos of at home workouts, which for the most part don't require any equipment. For that, I'm so grateful. Just getting my sweat on for thirty minutes to an hour every day brings my mood to a whole other level. It allows me to let out any frustrations, bad energy, and just let go. I start my workouts with a little dance party...just a mini one, and then go into my stretches, and finally pick a workout to do depending on the day and how my body is feeling. I try to do back and upper body at least once a week, and then every day is either legs, full body, or cardio. Here's a little list of what I've been doing:
I've given up on running, because there are just so many people on the sidewalks and through the neighborhood. So Instagram workouts are THE MOVE right now, and I'm totally okay with that. At school, I would go to the gym with my roommates and we'd been super duper consistent this semester. We'd drive down to the gym, park, get on a treadmill or elliptical for a few minutes to get some cardio in, and then follow an Instagram workout, usually involving weight-lifting of some kind. If the gym was crowded, then we'd find a corner, pick up some light dumbbells and get to work on our arms, shoulders, and backs. Gee I sure do miss going to a gym. I hope this pandemic is over soon, for many many reasons, and also so we can feel more freedom and be more active human beans. I will never take another gym workout for granted. That's for sure. I encourage you all to get moving!! It's made me a happier person during this whole ordeal, so I highly recommend it!! xoxo Camille
